Following on from the interesting session on poetry led by visiting speaker, Lesley Duncan, Poetry Editor of The Herald, Lesley sent us the results of our own competition which she kindly adjudicated.
There was a healthy number of entries covering a great variety of subjects and styles, from serious moods and structured rhymes to light-hearted and free verse. We were very grateful for the constructive comments attached to each poem. The results are as follows:
Winner Rosemary Gemmell
2nd Morag Moffat
3rd equal Elspeth Munro
Linda Cope
Many thanks again to Lesley for taking time to provide such a helpful session and adjudication!

Poetry with Lesley Duncan
Erskine Writers had the pleasure of a visit from The Herald Poetry Editor, Lesley Duncan, on Tuesday. Lesley shared a good variety of her own poems that illustrated how well world events can often inspire her writing.
It was interesting to hear that Scots poetry is every bit as acceptable as English verse and Lesley mentioned the well known James McCash Scots Poetry Competition which is run jointly by The Herald and Glasgow University.
Lesley Duncan will be judging our own poetry competition: open theme and maximum of 30 lines. Entries from Erskine Writers' members should be submitted to Kate Gordon by 18th February 2014.
