Guidelines for submission of competition entries

Manuscript

Prose entries should be typed in a clear font (eg Times New Roman 12), double-spaced, on one side of A4 paper.

The title is not included in the word count.

Poetry entries need not be double-spaced.  Most poetry competitions have a limit of 40 lines.

Pages should be numbered and the title should appear on each page.

Your own name should NOT appear anywhere on your entry.

Cover Sheets (included in email)

Entries to all competitions should have a first sheet with:

Name of competition

Title of entry

Pseudonym (one word)

Number of words (not required for poetry entries)

Number of lines for poetry entries.

Fees

Entry fees:

£1 per story or article

£1 per poem

If sending a cheque, please make it payable to Erskine Writers.  However cash can be given to the treasurer at a regular meeting.

Summary

Entries should be e-mailed to the competitions secretary by the closing date which is final except in extenuating circumstances.

Erskine Writers Constitution


  1. The objective of Erskine Writers is the encouragement and development of individual members’ creative writing.
  2. The organisation called Erskine Writers shall provide opportunities through suitable events such as workshops and lectures to support the objective of the organisation.
  3. Membership shall be open to all persons accepting the objective and agreeing to abiding by guidelines determined by the group.
  4. Members will undertake to pay an annual subscription.  This amount will be reviewed annually.
  5. An Annual General Meeting (“AGM”) shall be held in September each year.  This meeting will appoint office bearers and agree upon a subscription level.  Any proposals for consideration at the AGM should be submitted in writing, by a proposer and seconder, to the Secretary at least ten days before the AGM.
  6. Erskine Writers shall be administered by a working committee comprising President, Secretary and Treasurer.  These offices will be held for a maximum of two years unless otherwise agreed at the AGM.
  7. A quorum for the AGM of the group shall be one third of the full membership.
  8. Erskine Writers shall meet weekly from the start of September until mid December, and from mid January to the end of May, unless otherwise agreed by a majority at a regular meeting.
  9. In the event of Erskine Writers being disbanded, any monies in hand shall be disposed of on the instructions of a majority of the members.
  10. Any alteration to the constitution must be proposed and seconded with at least one month’s notice being given of the meeting at which any alterations are to be approved.  Any proposed alterations will be included in the notice calling the meeting.  Alterations will require a simple majority/two thirds (optional tbd) of the membership.
