SAW Annual Conference 2011

Another year, another great SAW conference at the Erskine Bridge Hotel over the weekend from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th March. We were well represented by around 16 members (including several postal members) and a great time was had by all. Excellent speakers (including the fabulous Jane Wenham-Jones) and seminars, interesting adjudications, lots of eating and chatting, and an energetic Saturday evening disco, for those who stayed awake long enough.

Even more exciting was the fact that Erskine Writers’ members were awarded many of the competition prizes! On the Friday evening, five of us sitting in a row were all mentioned in various competitions and I’m sure the other groups must have thought we had taken over.

Here is our full list of competition winners and mentions:

T.C.Farries Award (children’s novel): Winner - Victoria Gemmell

Constable Award (adult novel): 2nd - Myra Duffy; Commended - Joan Fleming; Commended - Cathie Devitt

Poetry: Winner - Joan Fleming; 2nd - Cathie Devitt

Humorous Article: 2nd - Cathie Devitt; Commended - Chris Gibbs

Unpublished Article: 2nd - Joan Lougheed

Book Review: 3rd - Rosemary Gemmell

Mini Story:  Commended - Wilma Ferguson

Under 7's:  Commended - Cathie Devitt

Well done to one and all!
Rosemary

I agree Rosemary. Was a brill weekend - trying to get back to normal now!
Don't worry about the disco pic not turning out - I'm glad when it's blurred - hides the lines somewhat.
Yes, Erskine did well. I'm proud to be a member of such a pro club.

Cheers, Chris
p.s. We two did well at the dancing too didn't we?

Hi Chris - I really enjoyed it all, including the dancing! Well done again on your commendation.

I've added another commendation for Cathie (had missed it out!).
