Hillary opened the meeting with introductions for two new
members Ian and Joe.
There was discussing of the various writing successes for Bob, Kate, Sandra
& Myra followed by short discussion on the forthcoming SAW Conference in
March 2020.
The subject chosen for today’s meeting was “Missing”
Kate lead with a poem in local dialect about the out of proportion
frustration caused by the misplacement of an apparently trivial kitchen item and
the vain attempts to find it..
Joan’s poem was of a tribute to a late lamented pet, the
loss of its presence and companionship and the disappearances from the house of
its loved possessions.
Bob’s story was about a repeat visit to the venue of a
previously perfect beach holiday. The collapse and disappearance of a well
loved beach cave, underlined an absent, well loved husband and father.
Sandra described the detailed procedures carried out by
Police Scotland in the case of missing persons. Escalating procedures are
started and multiple techniques are deployed when a successful outcome is not
quickly achieved.
Morag’s flash fiction told of a lady’s worry turning into
panic when in the middle of the night, an intruder approached her new and
apparently safe island home.
John’s nostalgic poem was of distant childhood. Things which
were trivial at the time, take on more importance as the years pass.
Wilma ventured into dangerous territory with a young
policeman who may have been trying to groom a naïve teenage. This was against a
background where four girls had recently gone missing.
Ian envisaged an actual shepherd who had been present when
the wise men warned of the birth of Christ. Thirty years later he was listening
to Jesus preaching the parable of the good shepherd and likening it to his own
life experience.
Pete’s story was of a couple who for years were a circus
knife throwing act. When the partnership eventual came to an end, he realised that he was
now missing her in a totally different way.
Time prevented all of the member’s ‘Missing’ stories being
read out – Another time!
