Donnie’s character tried to be a ‘Good Samaritan’. At the big Christmas bash in Largs, Kenny rediscovered a new pal and mutual St Mirren supporter. At the end of the evening, Kenny was just sober enough to drive his paralytic pal back home to Paisley.

In order to avoid the wrath of his pal’s wife, Kenny rang the bell, dumped his pal and drove off.

Several weeks later his pal complained of waking up on his cold door step. He was miles away from his wife who waiting for him in the hotel bedroom in Largs.

Wilma read another section of her history of Blawarthill Church. It followed on from the story of Rev James McKay. This time it was the description of his wife Nan (Anna) McKay.

Nan almost eclipsed her husband in terms of working in and with the church and various choirs and carrying out the role of expected social role of a minister’s wife. To augment the family income she also retained her own job (a rarity in those days.)

Kate ‘blethered on’ about how she could spend hours several times a week on the phone (land-line) talking to her sister about every subject under the son; including politics, TV, books and prevailing illnesses.

An empty bladder and a fresh cup of tea are essential prerequisites.

They even have a mangled, but to them meaningful French phrase invented long ago, to signal an end to the conversations.

Pete read his entry to the children’s short story competition. A young girl thought that she had been given a talking doll’s house as a birthday present.

When she discovered it was only an electronic trick played on her by her father; they both conspired to replicate the trick on her mother by inventing a talking pillow.

Wilma’s verse described the stress built up by attempting to arrange a doctor’s appointment. Do you choose the driving and traffic stress or the telephone stress?

Make sure to ring up within the correct time slot and be prepared to hang-on on at least until the time slot expires. At that point a recorded message will inform you that you have missed today’s time slot and you will have to wait for the next one.
