The group had their second meeting of the session on 22/09/20. We were joined by our guest speaker Author and Playwright Alan Bissett. The workshop centred on drama and script presentations. We had a very informative afternoon, including excerpts from some films that gave us a better understanding of the main characters and how their role develops.

Some of the main points that were highlighted, was that the dialogue should be in conflict where the characters have conflicting goals or needs. Dialogue should be either moving the story forwards or be revealing the character. Subtext this is when characters talk about something ordinary but they are actually talking about a deeper issue. The narrative forms an ARC, going on a journey rising and falling. The character has changed by the end of the journey. There will be a particular scene which is the keystone to the character's journey.

The group had an exercise involving two characters where we had to show the underlying issues between them, their different needs and goals.

A very productive and interesting workshop. Our thanks to Alan for delivering this to the group.
