Erskine Writers Meetings 14th and 21st September 2021

The new session has returned for the group meeting for the first time face to face. We had our first meeting on 7th September at Lorna's garden where the group met for the proof reading of the anthology, celebrating 30 years of the group. A very productive meeting and a big thanks to both Lorna and Sandra for pulling all the contributions together. We now wait in anticipation for the publication of the anthology.

Our first full meeting on the 14th of September welcomed our first guest speaker Imogen Stirling the Glasgow based poet, Writer-in-Residence for Paisley Book Festival 2021. We started the session with an exercise The seven I's followed by a free writing exercise on the subject 'Change'. Imogen then talked about Kennings style associated with Old Norse-Icelandic and Old English poetry. Two word phrase rather than one noun an example, whale road would be sea. We then did an exercise on Univocal Language using just one vowel in each word of your prose using the same vowel, very challenging but good fun. A very informative afternoon that the group enjoyed and a big thanks to Imogen for sharing this experience.

The second meeting took place on 21st September.  Sandra gave an account of her 'Bloody Scotland' weekend. The group had to bring a piece on 'Remember the High Street'. We had seven readings in total all different and nostalgic, Rob's contribution 'Nostalgia Therapy' was the standout reading of the afternoon, a beautiful, descriptive piece of writing. There were a couple of open manuscripts read to complete the session.
