Erskine Writers Meeting 7th March 2023

This week we had a workshop on Plot with our guest speaker, crime writer Alex Sokoloff. Alex talked about movies and how they are generally set up with three main acts and within each act we have a series of sequences. Creating tension and pace throughout the acts finishing on a cliffhanger at the end of each sequence which averages every 15 minutes. There were normally 40-60 scenes in a two-hour movie. Alex recommended using index cards and either a large table or wall/whiteboard to lay out your ideas for each sequence. Set pieces were also very important with location making a great set piece, normally six great scenes make a movie. The group were delighted with Alex's advice and presentation.
