Finish the story - start provided. 13 March 2018.

Hilary circulated two 2-page short stories, one to each member present. The endings had been omitted.

The first told the story of a girl speculating to her friend on the qualities she would be looking for in an ideal husband and why she would be choosing those characteristics. In later life, when they meet again, the choice of the actual partner is revealed.

The second story was from a 1913 African newspaper which reported the escape from prison of a white gangster. At the end of his first day on the run, it appeared that luck was going to be on his side at every twist and turn.

We had half an hour to formulate an appropriate outcome and either write down a detailed ending to the story or at least have thought through the bullet points of an outcome.

In each case the conclusion had to be consistent with apparent clues contained within the original text.

The envisioned endings, as usual, different widely. The plot of the ending differed between members and the amount of ‘fleshing out’.

Hilary judged that our endings were more interesting than the original ones. (She would say that wouldn’t she?).

Two more stories were read from last week’s ‘Music to my ears’ exercise. Wilma used the theme of “If I had a talking picture of you” and Sandra’s was based on “Easter parade”.

Diana read an update of her 'Forked Tongue' poem.

Ian gave us two short poems.

Next week is the AGM. Members are asked to give Hilary advanced notice of any agenda items.
