First Chapters with Alex Gray

At last Tuesday's meeting, we were delighted to have EW member, Sandra, providing a critique of our previously submitted first chapters of novels. Better known as well published Scottish crime writer, Alex Gray, Sandra used the chapters as an excellent workshop on creating a memorable beginning to a novel.

Although it wasn't a competition, a few entries shone while others needed more work. But it was beneficial for us all to hear why some read better than others and where some of the chapters should have begun the story.

I'm sure we all went home with useful tips and greater knowledge of what might entice a publisher, or reader, to choose our books.
